Anatomy of Solid Balloon

Body
The body of a round solid balloon is the portion which is designed to be inflated. It is oblong or spherical in a bulb molded solid balloon, and may be X- or star-shaped in a solid balloon manufactured on a fluted mold.Typically, a solid balloon reaches its rated size when its body is inflated to a high enough pressure that the solid balloon begins to store additional air in its neck instead.

Neck
The neck of a round solid balloon is the portion which connects its body to its inflation outlet. It is also the portion of a solid balloon which is tied into a knot to keep it inflated. A solid balloon's neck is always cylindrical in shape, but its length and width may vary between manufacturers. Some manufacturers of solid balloons with longer necks advertise them as being "easier to tie." Making solid balloons with shorter necks, on the other hand, may be more cost-effective. The neck of a solid balloon is not designed to be inflated. But if a round solid balloon is inflated past its rated size, the neck will typically begin to inflate when the body's pressure becomes high enough. Not all round solid balloons' necks may be inflated completely, however: if the ratio of body to neck diameter is too high, or the body-neck transition is too severe, the pressure required to completely inflate the solid balloon's neck is higher than the burst pressure of the body. Fluted solid balloons are especially difficult to completely inflate down their necks.

Lip
The lip (or bead) of a solid balloon surrounds the inflation outlet, making it easier to grasp the solid balloon for inflation. Having a reinforced lip also keeps the inflation outlet open rather than collapsed on itself, making inflation by mouth much easier. Lips are usually created during the manufacturing process by small rotating brushes which roll latex from the solid balloon's unfinished neck. Since this typically happens before the solid balloon is vulcanized, the roll effectively glues itself together and it is very difficult, though not impossible, to unroll a finished solid balloon's lip. When solid balloon molds are dipped in latex, they are dipped neck up. The latex which has collected on the form then settles, and as the solid balloon is removed from the latex bath the excess drips off the bottom "point" of the mold. Typically, this results in a circular, eraser-sized thickening at the top end of the solid balloon, called its drip point. The latex of a solid balloon's drip point can, in some instances, be thick enough to be pierced without popping the solid balloon. The "needle-through-solid balloon" magic trick typically involves piercing a solid balloon through its uninflated neck and its drip point. Manufacturers' dipping procedures vary, so some solid balloons have fainter or differently-shaped drip points.

Body-neck transition
The point at which the neck of a solid balloon meets its body is called its body-neck transition, the place where if you ran a finger down the solid balloon from body to neck, your finger "turns." This is chiefly a feature of round ballons; paddle-shaped and twisting solid balloons do not have such a transition. The three solid balloons at right are arranged in decreasing order of the sharpness of this transition. The transition on a round solid balloon is a focal point of negative curvature and high stress that increases with the transition's sharpness. In order to inflate a solid balloon down its neck, this high stress must first be overcome, either by high pressure in the body or by pre-stretching. Thus, solid balloons with gentle transitions are more likely to inflate completely down their neck to their lip without bursting.

Types of Solid Balloon

1

Round solid balloons
These are the birthday solid balloons, which are actually the normal solid balloons that everyone knows. Most of these solid balloons are made of latex (i.e. pure rubber, which is actually the resin of the rubber tree, therefore, it is a biodegradable material). These solid balloons come in a wide variety of sizes, ranging from small sizes: for example, a five-inch solid balloon (marked as 5’ solid balloon or as 5’R (R stands for Round)) through a 12’ round solid balloons, to huge sizes that can be inflated to the size of a person’ s height. The size of the round solid balloon (for example, 5 inches) is actually the diameter of the solid balloon when it is almost fully inflated. By the way, the most common size of round solid balloons (with which we often create solid balloon designs for events with) is 12 or 11 inches. Of course it’ s also the name of the solid balloon: 11-inch solid balloon or 12-inch solid balloon.

2

Modelling solid balloons
Modelling solid balloons (also called Long solid balloons or twisting solid balloons or solid balloon animals or in their professional name ‘260 solid balloons’) These are the long solid balloons that we use to make solid balloon animals with (solid balloon dog / solid balloon sword etc’). These solid balloons are also made of latex, which is the resin of the rubber tree and is biodegradable. Although most of the people know only one size of modelling solid balloons, actually, there are 4 major sizes of modelling solid balloons. These sizes differ from each other in their diameter (their thickness). Their length is more or less equal. Modelling solid balloons are marked using the following name convention: Width (diameter in inches) & length (in inches). For example, 260 solid balloons are 2 inches diameter & 60 inches long.

3

Linking solid balloons
Round solid balloons with two ends (Linking solid balloons, AKA Link-o-Loon or Quick Link solid balloons). Round solid balloons with two ends also called linking solid balloons are round solid balloons with two ends: One of the ends is the nozzle of the solid balloon, and on the opposite side of the nozzle there is another closed ‘nozzle’. We use this other tip to tie more solid balloons to it. This way we tie a solid balloon to a solid balloon to a solid balloon, creating a chain of round solid balloons connected to each other without the need of using any string to hold them together. Then, we use these rows of solid balloons to combine more and more rows into a big solid balloon sculpture.

4

Foil (Mylar) solid balloons
Mylar solid balloons (also called Foil solid balloons) are solid balloon that are made of foil (aluminum) that is coated with nylon inside (mylar). These solid balloons comes in all kind of shapes and are usually filled with helium. They often have different prints on them, such as a unicorn solid balloon or solid balloons that looks like letters and more and more. Because these solid balloons are made of metal and nylon, they stay very long with air (or helium) inside.

5

Other Latex solid balloons
More latex solid balloons in a variety of shapes and forms. There are many more kinds of latex solid balloons, like heart solid balloons, geo blossom solid balloons (solid balloons that has a hole in their center), Mickey Mouse solid balloons, long spiral solid balloons and more and more.

6

Transparent silicone solid balloons (AKA Bubble solid balloons)
Silicone solid balloons are new solid balloons in the industry. They are round solid balloons that has a different look and fill. The great advantage of these solid balloons is that they don’ t get oxidize (they stay shiny and clear, just like a soap bubble). That happens since they are not biodegradable. In addition, their shape is round just like a ball.

Why Is the Pressure Higher in the Smaller Solid Balloon

There are two factors that contribute to this. We must consider the curved shape of the solid balloon, and the material it is made from. A balance of forces: The pressure inside an inflated solid balloon is greater than the pressure outside it. The solid balloon is stable because the expanding force due to the pressure difference is balanced by the contracting force exerted by the surface tension of the rubber. Laplace's Law for the pressure in spherical bubbles and droplets tells us that: ΔP = 2γ /r for a droplet with one surface and ΔP = 4γ /r for a bubble with an inside and an outside surface. ΔP is the pressure difference between the interior and exterior of the droplet or bubble, γ is the surface tension, and r is the radius. It shows us that where the surface tension is equal and wall thickness negligible, the pressure inside a bubble is inversely proportional to its radius of curvature. The smaller the bubble, the higher its internal pressure.

To apply this to the solid balloons, we are making several approximations. For example, we know that the surface tension of the two solid balloons is not uniform, and they are not perfect spheres. Mathematicians and physicists have modelled the problem in detail to arrive at a closer approximation of the a real solid balloon. Surface Area: Another way to consider the problem is to examine the change in the amount of stretch in the solid balloons. To stretch a solid balloon and increase its surface area requires energy. Imagine two spherical solid balloons share a total volume of 2 litres of air. At first the air is distributed between the solid balloons unequally. When we open the tap between them, the total volume remains constant, but it can now be shared between the two solid balloons in different ways. If the solid balloons equalise in volume, there is a net gain in surface area, and therefore an increase in the total amount of stretch. This requires energy to be added to the system. If the difference between the volumes is increased, however, there is a net loss in surface area. The decrease in surface area of the small solid balloon is greater than the increase in surface area of the large solid balloon. This reduces the total stretch in the system.

Choosing the Suitable Solid Balloon Sizes

When it comes to choosing the right size solid balloon for your event, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, consider the number of guests you’ ll have in attendance. You’ ll want to make sure there’ s enough space for everyone to comfortably stand or sit beneath the solid balloon, so choose a size that’ s appropriate for the size of your event space. Also consider whether you want your solid balloon to be free-floating or anchored down. Free-floating solid balloons look best when they’ re bigger in size, while anchored solid balloons can be any size depending on how you want to use them (e.g., as table decorations).

Finally, think about the overall look you’ re going for at your event. If you want something formal and elegant for your wedding event, 36 inch giant latex round solid balloons might be your best bet. If you’ re throwing a fun birthday party for kids, try brightly coloured 11 inch latex, 24 inch bubble solid balloons set, or 40 inch giant foil solid balloons. If you want to be perfect for a birthday party, themed event, hens night decorations 11 inch, 36 inch Latex Round solid balloons will be the answer for that. And if you need something that’ s durable and will last long after your event is over, go with 16 inch heart/star foil, 40 inch giant number foil solid balloons! No matter what your needs are, there’ s a type of solid balloon out there that’ s perfect for you.

Notes on Using Solid Balloon

Solid balloons may be fun, but they require a few safety precautions to make sure everyone has a good time at your party. Protect the planet and those around you by remembering the following tips.

Keep out of reach of children: Broken or deflated solid balloons are a choking hazard for small children. Avoid letting the little ones at your party play with solid balloon fragments to keep your guests safe.

Avoid inhaling helium: Use a helium tank or solid balloon pump to fill up your solid balloons.

Discard after use: When you’ ve finished the party, cut the neck of the solid balloons and deflate and discard them. Even though foil solid balloons are typically reusable, it’ s important to remember to throw out any solid balloons you don't plan on using again in the proper receptacle.

Recycle when possible: Since most of our products are recyclable, find out how to bring your used solid balloons to a recycle center.

Keep them on the ground, it has worked with others to implement an industry position against releasing any solid balloon into the environment. We encouraging that solid balloons be weighted, not released outdoors, and disposed of properly when broken or deflated. Whether it's a single solid balloon or hundreds, don't let go.
